JAPAN KNIFE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Kitchen knives are deeply rooted in our daily lives. Because they are so commonplace, we rarely have the chance to notice their true depth. Japanese blades are world-renowned, and the more you learn, the more you discover a world that exceeds all imagination.

However, looking at the information flooding social media and the internet today, we felt a certain sense of unease. It feels as though sales and impressions have become the priority, leaving behind the essence of “truly facing the tool with sincerity.”

In the midst of this, we encountered two individuals: Mr. Tomohiro Kakinuma and Mr. Masashi Fujiwara.

They always put the user first, allow no compromises, and pursue the true essence of their craft to the furthest extent. Inspired by their sincere approach, we began our activities as the Japan Knife Research Institute.

Our mission is to deliver the “authentic information” and the “passion for tools” that they embody to as many people as possible.

Thoughts on the Relaunch

Our journey began in September 2024 with the launch of our YouTube channel. Right from the start, we gained over 700 subscribers and received many warm comments from dedicated fans, marking a very promising beginning.

On the other hand, the words shared by these two individuals carried enough influence to significantly impact those around them.

Precisely because there are so many “truths yet to be known” in the Japanese knife world, their messages were met not only with criticism but also with defamatory comments. Although we believed our content was shared with the necessary discretion, we prioritized the impact on the two of them and initially decided not to resume our social media presence.

About a year has passed since then. After re-evaluating the situation, the fact remains that their presence is essential to sharing Japanese knife culture with the world. Moving forward, we have decided to resume our activities with an even stronger sense of responsibility for the information we share.

What We Will Share

We will deliver “authentic knowledge and experience born from practice” through our videos, covering everything from basic kitchen knife knowledge to deep, specialized insights that cannot be heard elsewhere.

Additionally, in response to earnest requests from our overseas viewers who wanted explanations in English, we have launched this blog. We will organize the content of our videos into a structured text format, creating a space where people from all over the world can experience the true essence of Japanese knives.

Information is constantly changing. We encourage you not to take everything at face value, but to value the experience of trying and confirming things for yourself.

Going forward, we will continue to share unique content, such as the stories behind our productions and deep foundational knowledge of knives. Thank you for your continued support.
